At 10 years old, as revolution, war, and political upheaval reshaped life in Iran, Ali Behmard fled the country with his mother, crossing mountains into Turkey, where the two were briefly detained before eventually making their way to Canada as refugees.

He dropped out of school. Worked as a mechanic. Slowly rebuilt a life from the ground up.

Fast forward a few years, and through grit, second chances, and the guidance of a few meaningful mentors, Ali found his way back to education and eventually into dentistry.

Years later, from the outside, it looked like he had made it. A successful dental practice in West Vancouver. A beautiful family. A respected life.

But beneath the achievements was something he could never quite outrun: the quiet ache of a son still searching for a father’s approval.

Then, during a silent meditation retreat, something broke open.
