Shifting mindset, changed brain
What if change isn’t just about willpower, but wiring?

Shifting mindset, changed brain.
What if change isn’t just about willpower, but wiring?

Dr. Lara Boyd’s TEDx talk, “After this your brain will not be the same,” has been viewed over 40 million times—and for good reason. She helps us understand, in plain language, what most of us have sensed all along: that change is possible, but not always easy. Because it’s not just psychological. It’s biological.

In this Shift Session, Lara will unpack what’s really going on inside the brain when we try to do something different—why we get stuck, how new patterns form, and what we can do to make change stick. Drawing from her groundbreaking research on neuroplasticity, she’ll offer a science-backed take on habit formation, behavior change, and the mindset required to do hard things over time.

Dr. Boyd is a Professor and Distinguished University Scholar at UBC, where she leads the Brain Behaviour Lab. She’s trained over 80 graduate students, published more than 200 papers, and brought in over $25 million in research funding. But what makes her work stand out? She doesn’t just study change—she shows us how to live it.
