The Shape of Things
Design, life, and the forces that change both

There are people who follow trends. And then there are people who build entire worlds out of their imagination. John Fluevog is one of those people. As the founder of John Fluevog Shoes, he didn’t just make shoes. He made it easier for people to walk through the world as themselves.

What makes his story compelling isn’t just what he created, but how he stayed true to it. Through decades of change, he kept choosing creativity over conformity and curiosity over comfort.

And recently, life invited him into a very different kind of creation.

After more than three decades living with kidney disease, John received a life-saving kidney transplant from a family friend. In true Fluevog fashion, he turned that moment into something meaningful. He designed a pair of bold red shoes named after his donor and her husband. Three straps. One for the ureter, one for the vein, one for the artery. A piece of design that carries a story most people would never think to tell. A portion of the proceeds now supports the Kidney Foundation of Canada, extending that act of generosity even further.

At SHIFT Sessions, John will share a story about quiet courage, creative conviction, and the deeper shifts that shape us. What it takes to keep following your own path. And how, sometimes, the most powerful step forward is the one you didn’t see coming.
